FEAR STOPS WONDERS

By

Sempai Cheyenne Beets

Matthew was just called into the ring for a kata. He just stands there paralyzed with fear. Matthew, go to your sensei, you can come back  in a minute, says the referee. Matthew bows and walks up to his sensei. I can't do it exclaimed Matthew! The guy who went before me was really good. I'm afraid I will embarass myself! Don't be afraid, Matthew you have trained hard and I am right here. Give me your best. Matthew walks back up to the ring and performs his kata wonderfully! I knew you could do it Matthew! Good job!

This relates to the time in Exodus 20:20 when Moses says, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of the Lord will be with you and keep you from sinning." God gives us many reasons to not fear. In Genesis 15:1 he declares, "Do not be afraid, Abraham. I am your shield, your very great reward." Fear should not paralyze us. It's okay to be nervous but don't let it stop you from doing something great like Matthew!

2009 AAU NATIONAL KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP!

by

Sempai Cheyenne Beets

Congratulations to all of the National competitors! Sensei, the Sempai’s, and the entire dojo, are so proud of you! Not just because you brought home a medal, but because you conquered your nerves and had the heart to go out there and represent our dojo well! That is a true karate ka! There were a lot of different and new experiences that also made it so special! “I think the opening ceremony was my favorite,” Sempai Dakota stated. “It was like the Olympics!” For those of you who were not there, it was! They had music playing and dojos from the entire nation walked out, most of them with banners. Even though the music was really cool, I guarantee you that if you asked somebody who was there how they felt about it, they would say that there ears were ringing afterwards. Soon after the presentation of the dojos, they all marched back to the staging area and the tournament began! The huge march out had been on the day that the children competed. The day before that, Sempai Fowler and Mrs. Leonard competed; Sempai Fowler won the bronze in kobudo and fourth place in kata, Mrs. Leonard won the silver in kumite and bronze in kata! Congratulations! Here is the list of the competitors whom competed the next day:  Sempai Dakota Beets brought home two bronze medals for kata and kumite, and on her second  year of national competition Sempai Nina Walther performed a wonderful Nijushiho and placed fourth in kobudo. Landon Cassano took the bronze in kumite, and Jordan Fowler took fourth in kata. Everyone did a fantastic job! On the third day of competition Josie Maszk won the silver mdeal in kumite and bronze in kata. Congrats Josie! All of you did a wonderful job! “I am so proud of everybody!” said Sensei Lindle Beets after the tournament. I want to take a minute to recognize Sensei. Without him, we could have not been there. Three cheers for Sensei! In conclusion, I am extremely proud of everybody! You all did fantastic! Along with a lot of fellowship, we had a wonderful time! I believe that the Nationals is a wonderful experience, and encouage everyone to try out for the 2010 national team.

Dear Dojo Children,

Although this letter is for everyone, as a group, you are a delightful mixture of funny, bright, curious, quiet, loud, wild, shy and silly personalities.

It is our dearest hope that each of you will always laugh out loud from deep down in your belly at corny jokes.  It is our fondest wish that you will always have the enthusiasm for life that you do at this tender age.  It gives us such pleasure to watch you run just for the thrill of it and to feel the wind fly past.  We love the way you sing so loudly and joyously and off-key and with such passion.   It is a thrill to see you jump up and down and cheer and hug your friends when something excites you.

We hope that you will always split your banana in half to share with a friend.  It is sweet to watch you put bugs back where you found them because they are God's creatures.  It is so refreshing to spend our days with children that speak and sing and dance from their hearts and not their heads.  Our wish for you is that you always have the imagination to turn a bowl into a hat, a tablecloth into a shawl, and a mixer into a curling iron.

Curiosity is an important learning tool.  Ask questions of everyone you know.  Be full of joy every single day!!  Attitudes are contagious so be sure that yours is worth catching!  Smile all the time!  It feels good to you and everyone around you!  Decide to be happy!

Each time you tell us you love us, paint us a picture, write us a note, say we are pretty, bake us a pretend cake, or say I am proud of you daddy, and watch our hearts glow.  You are the dearest, silliest, sweetest children any parents could ever ask for and we adore you.  Wherever you go in life and whatever you do, we want you to remember something...your parents love you very much and will always be there for you.  May God Bless Each of You!

Warm Kisses and Big Bear Hugs,

Your Loving Parents

OFF BALANCE
by
Maddie DePuy

God’s Word says:“The Lord requires you to act justly, be merciful and to walk humbly with your God.”  This will keep your life in balance with Christ! Micah 6:8

Kelsi was at her gymnastics lesson. She bumped up onto the high balance beam. She walked steadily, ready to do a flip. She jumped into the air.
“Amber!” Kelsi’s friend Shara called. Kelsi fell off the balance beam.
“Kelsi” coach Johnson called. “Come over here.” Kelsi ran over.
“What is it, coach?” she asked.
“I saw your fall,” coach Johnson said. “Are you okay?”
“Yes,” Kelsi said, “I’m fine. It’s a good thing you taught me how to fall.”
“Yeah, it is.” Her coach replied. “You know, that reminds me of what can happen in a relationship with Christ.”
“What do you mean?” Kelsi asked.
“Well,” Coach Johnson replied, “We can start out great, but then get distracted by other things like you did. Here, we train you so that if you do fall, you don’t hurt yourself. You can read your bible, so if you fall off balance in your relationship with Jesus, you can get right back up again.”
Wow, thanks, Coach!” Kelsi said.
“You’re welcome.”

"THE SEA"
By
Unknown Karate Ka

When sea billows roll, I feel like I'm free again
Then I'm struck down by the fingers of force
Up I go, flipped in the air
Down I go again
It's so powerful
It's power is unmatchable
Just one can match it.
